2008-08-23 Plants and Deer !!
A better picture of the morning glory.......
OH DEAR !!! We have had deer in the garden, they ate grape vines, and spindle trees, down to only the stems....a few tomato's, carrots and my AVOCADO plant ,see picture!!
As my observant German friends said OH DEAR !!!!
This is the chick pea harvest , may be enough for humus for one slice of toast !!
they have to dry in the sun and then you shell them, already dried....these were all grown from peas I sprouted on the window sill, from a packet brought from England.....

2008-08-20 Pergola
Uprights ready for action !!!
The first three are looking good.........
Although they need some slight alteration..........
Secured for the night.
All uprights....Upright !
Finished framework, all we need is more wood for the top.
Squeaky tries out his new climbing frame !!!!
Nearer to the tree, how handy !!

2008-08-15 Building the wall
Here Dave is building a wall under the existing wall !!
When the terrace was 'levelled' the wall holding up the garden behind was discovered to be balancing on a bed of soil....so Dave built another wall under the existing wall !!
Daves first dry stone wall ....not bad eh???
The new steps
The 'under pinning'
finishing the wall...

2008-08-06 New terrace first day !
After the A team left, Dave decided that he better cover the soil with gravel in case we had a thunder storm, and it all turned to MUD!
This is the wall that Dave is building at the back of the top terrace
These are the new steps from lower terrace to garden, I would like some more like this at the other end !!
Here you can see the new steps, the new wall, under the timber the metal poles for fixing the Pergola to, and the big pile of stones for Dave's wall......

2008-08-06 Begining the New Terrace!!
We have decided to put a 'tunnel' or 'pergola' along the back of the terrace to give some shade, during the July /August time (like NOW!!!)
But before you can do this it is necessary to dig good foundations or the tunnel will end up in Cailho - le- Bas...........
and knock down walls, and build new steps.......etc. .........etc...........etc .
so we called in the A team and from 7.00am to midi they worked so hard and stripped off all the top terrace stone, rebuilt a falling wall, and put in new steps, HOWEVER, none of them are now available for the next 3 weeks and then its someone else's turn.....SO
It s all willing hands on deck, but the temps at present are in the 30's and work after lunch is inadvisable, so it will be December when we get our Pergola !!
Lilou lends a hand!

2008-08-04 August wildlife
Squeaky has decided to join the circus, here he is practising his balancing act !!!
This little fellow is still a mystery, he looks like a tiny mantis/fly the forearms are damaged on this one, but we don't see many of these, so this is the best we have got!
that is Dave's fingers on the outside of the box to give SOME idea of size......
Defiantly a cricket, or is it a grasshopper ??? anyway its quite big this one........
Here we have the result of the Swallowtails efforts, recorded earlier in this Blog, a very hungry caterpillar, I hope I have SOME fennel left after he's flown....
This is a thread waisted wasp in England and a Mason wasp in France, The French name is obvious, she/he started building this construction about a month ago this is about the 6th chamber, she/he packs them with spiders and an egg, and seals up the hole with a mud like substance.
The English name comes from the extremely thin body.
