We went to a Vide Grenier ( Car Boot Sale) and when we returned, we found, these Mantis laying their eggs along the dividing part of our farmhouse door !
I have named them Hinge and Bracket, for the amusement of people of a certain age :O)
Here we have Hinge……..
and here we have Bracket……she seems to be in the lead ! the eggs are laid in this “foam” which when dry is a beautiful honeycomb structure , about 300 eggs so I've heard, now if all these hatch, and these are not the only two this year, where all other life has been poor this year, the Mantis have been prolific !
A little mushroom interlude………
These are just two girolles (chantrelles) weighing in at nearly 200g.
Yet again we found Chicken of the woods…….yet again too late, it becomes a bit bitter with age, i have yet to find a young one !
These mushrooms can weigh up to 23kg of solid flesh, and are great for us veggies………but this one was too old……..I know that feeling !
The final count, some Field mushrooms, St Michaels, Girolles and Beef steaks…..a lovely risotto mixture.
Finally, for now anyway, we found these in the woods attached to an old oak leaf……does anyone know what they are ????
They reminded me of Puffer fish !!
