2008-11-10 Mushrooms.......

After the rains it was still quite warm, but too late for the usual crop of Ceps and girolles, however the late season was especially good for the Agaric family.
we found them everywhere.

This one was a reject as it had a little yellow around the edges and even though it wasn't a 'yellow stainer' it wasn't worth the risk !

These are Red cracked bolus, good for drying for soups/stews
The Rose du pres (field mushroom)
A new one for us, but very distinctive, Slippery Jack, the slime on top was quite revolting, but once its removed, they are maggot free as most flies are caught in the goo !!! i have dried this batch, to try them out.
Another sort of field mushroom, after extencive search i could not defiantly pin down a name for this one, but it wasn't yellow, it smelt very mushroomy and we are still alive !!
Our best one day haul, people on this trip are swore to its secret location (Mike!) of course i've told loads of people myself !!!
Two more for the bin, i thought i had found enormous girroles (chanterelles) but these were very old Lactis, which make you sick.........

These were from a different location, but i think the same sort of field mushroom as before.
They all had a sightly hollow 'bag' around the stem, i know that sounds like the sac lots of posionous mushrooms come from, but this was just the stem, i took a picture with one cut in half but it didn't turn out well enough to see the hollow. the other feature is the boxyness of the young ones, almost part of the stalk.
rose du pres (field mushroom......yummy)

2008-11-09 John & Gorge du Heric

John (Brother of Dave) came to visit, and they walked up the Gorge du Heric. It's not too far from us, but we have never walked it before as I was unsure if I could make it....apparently there is a road like this all the way!!

Some views from inside the Gorge.

2008-11-02 RAIN & FIRE (Salamander) !!!

So after the glorious day of Daves party, we had snow on Thursday and a huge thunder storm on the Sunday exactly a week after the 'Aperro' this is how the terrace looked!

and who goes out in weather like this???? Fire Salamanders do............this one nearly had an untimely end as Dave narrowly missed treading on him on the doorstep!
