We never start one project without leaving another one unfinished.....in this case digging out behind the house to find the hidden window.....I will let the pictues tell the story of stage one!!
Sorry to all who were confused by this turn of events.....last year we re-did all the beams in the house, during this process we removed the 'brick' wall which had been put in front of the original wall, when we had removed the wall we discovered there was a window behind it....but behind that was the soil and stone of the mountain, this lead us to believe that the house was not built into the mountain as we previously thought, but had had a passage way behind at some time. fortunatly the window is near the end of the house so this is where Dave and Stephane started to dig, they exclavated down to sill level, and exposed the 'window' and now a wall has to be built behind to retain......the mountain !We also now have to buy ANOTHER window....hope this helps if not let me know.
BTW picture 3 is from the inside looking through the stones and seeing daylight, the lintel above this window can be seen on the outside pictures too....
