2010-08-08 Garden,Flowers and Insects

This is a Mantis Fly, it looks just like a praying mantis at the front end and a lace wing elsewhere....

Pictures from our garden.............

These are called 'cour de beouf' and are nearly all flesh and small amout of seeds.

This is a mix of parsnip and celeriac

These are some shield bugs who have taken a fancy to Rhubarb!

Here is one practicing for the circus !!!

A beautiful Praying Mantis...

This is a Purple tiger chilli, grown for the first time, the chillis are hotter if you leave them on the plant, so we leave them a long time! I have always wanted to string onions/garlic like this, so this year i Googled it and hey presto its easy !!

Unless you like horror stories, dont look at the next set of pics, it the mantis devouring one of our swallowtails.....

This is a much nicer (probably vegetairian) stick insect, we called it Sticky/Sidney

This is Ronan and this is Holly

Wasp spiders are so facinating, look for the zig-zag threads below the spider.

OK, i wanted to finish with a flower, again the humble sweet potato.
